How do the three basic soaps differ?

Decorative items can be moulded in the transparent soap so that they are visible (Important: due to the danger of injury, only use decorative items without sharp edges and corners). The opaque soap is based on the same type of soap but has opaque white added to it. The big white component means that, with the opaque soaps, the soap colours have more of a pastel shade than for the transparent soap. The goat's milk soap is an opaque soap based on goat's milk.

The moulding temperature is around 60°C for all three soap types; if soaps are cast in layers, however, a temperature of just under 70°C should be used so as to ensure that the layers bond well.

Can the same equipment be used as for candle moulding?

With soap too, a distinction is made between directly and indirectly heated equipment (see under FAQs "General questions", "Equipment"). Our directly heated appliances (Art. 27130, 27140, 27145 and 27150) are designed for bigger quantities of 20 kg or more. As an indirectly heated small unit, we recommend a combination of our Type 20 wax melter, a six-hole lid, our glass melting pots for soap and the corresponding tongs (Art. 73100).

We do not recommend using our wax melting pots, such as our size 1 and 1a, since these lead to more air bubbles when moulding soap. Glass pots are more neutral in this respect.

Where do I find the filling weight for a soap mould?

In the web shop, directly adjacent to the mould in question, and also embossed on the mould itself.

How can the seam line be made less prominent on the two-part soap moulds?

Make sure that the two halves of the mould are pressed firmly together before pouring in the soap. Important: press along the groove/ridge. The more firmly the two halves are pressed together, the less prominent the seam will be on the finished soap. Wash the mould in hot water and dry it after each use. Soap residues along the groove/ridge prevent the two halves from sticking together in the optimum manner (soap acts as a lubricant!).
Tip: the clamping effect can be further reinforced with pairs of magnets arranged around the motif.

What is the best way to clean soap moulds?

With hot water!
